Council considers liquor permit for cycle race

The Nevada City Council will hold its first meeting in the new city council chambers at 120 S. Ash Street at 7 p.m., today.

Among the items under consideration is Resolution No. 1427, to waive a section of the city that prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages on the Nevada Square to allow Sharkey's Pub and Grub II to serve food and beer at a beer garden on the Square at 118 and 120 W. Walnut for six hours during the Tour of Nevada cycling race on July. This would be subject to approval of the insurance certificate by the city of Nevada and the landowner prior to the event

The council will also be considering Resolution No. 1426 for a limited permit picnic license for the sale of malt liquor for consumption on the premises for On My Own at 428 E. Highland from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., on July 24.

Other items under consideration are the first readings of two special ordinances releasing and concluding NID assessments on Lot 9 and Lot 2 of Ashland Estates developed by Stuesman Realty Inc.

The council will also be holding the first reading of a special ordinance authorizing change order No. 2 to an agreement with RE Smith Construction Company, Joplin, for the construction of the new police and municipal court building and the second reading of a special ordinance authorizing a contract with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for the design of the fuel update at the Nevada Municipal Airport. This project will be largely paid for with federal grants and will be the next phase of upgrading the airport.

Other items include the second and final reading of a special ordinance authorizing a lease agreement for multifunction copiers with Ricoh USA Inc.; the second reading of a special ordinance changing the definition of commodity to allow the sale of wine at the farmers market by a local winery and the consideration of Resolution No. 1425 authorizing the mayor to sign the ".gov domain registration request from the government services administration so the city can retain its rights to the domain name "nevadamo.gov."
