CCPA announces upcoming season

For more than 40 years, the Community Council on the Performing Aarts has provided a wide variety of entertainment to the community along with countless opportunities for community members of all ages to showcase their talents on stage, according to a press release from the organization.
"This is all because of the generous support of our performers, patrons, sponsors, and community. For that we are extremely grateful.
"Thank you for your support of the CCPA; every dollar collected is appreciated and used for the playhouse and its events. Please continue your support for the preservation of the performing arts in our community. With your help, we can continue to keep the performing arts alive in our community, keep providing opportunities for local citizens to shine, and keep a historic building open and functioning.
"Our new season will build on progress made in 2014-2015. In an effort to increase attendance, we produced our plays on two weekends rather than one. Attendance increased.
"In addition, with the help of Nevada High School's theater teacher, Johanna Beck, more local youth have participated. This year's Disney's "High School Musical Jr." broke attendance records. Our goal is to continue building that interest and help in the development of the next generation of local performers."
The 2015-16 season will begin Oct. 2-4 and 9-11, with the Pulitzer Prize winning tragicomedy "Crimes of the Heart," by Beth Henley, directed by Kim Bessey. In December, the Community Choir Christmas Concert will return under the direction of Wes Morton. In February, Richard Daut will direct the "side-splitting" comedy "Faith County," by Mark Landon Smith.
The season will close in April with the comedic thriller "The Murder Room," by Jack Sharkey, directed by Cassie Eador. Season tickets are available.
The goal of the CCPA is to preserve and promote the performing arts in the community.
"Through the years, the CCPA has succeeded in providing high-quality entertainment at a very low cost; however, the costs of producing a play and maintaining an aging (and sometimes leaky) building continue to rise. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund repairs to the Fox Playhouse's roof and walls, royalties and scripts, promotional materials, and building improvements to reduce our rising energy costs.
"With your help, we can keep the performing arts and the Fox Playhouse a vital part of our community."
In addition to financial support, the CCPA is in need of volunteers. There are many different ways to volunteer your time, from distributing flyers to designing sets to organizing special events.
"We are especially interested in hearing from volunteers for our Publicity Committee and people who would like to serve on a History Committee to archive and preserve CCPA and Fox Playhouse history and memorabilia."
"If you wish to volunteer, contact any CCPA board member or contact us at CCPA, P.O. Box 754, Nevada, Mo., 64772 or visit www.nevadamoccpa.org
