NMS volleyball ready to roll
The veteran coaching tandem of Marsha Hooper and Gail Wilson will again lead Nevada's Middle School girls' volleyball teams this fall.
Hooper will guide the seventh grade while Wilson will lead the eighth.
For Hooper, this is her 34th year coaching; the last 11 at the seventh-grade level. For Wilson, it's her 32nd year coaching; the last seven at the eighth-grade level.
"With seventh grade, this is their first year, so some players are competing for the very first time," said Hooper. "Some do have a little club volleyball experience.
"This group is very eager to learn and improve basic volleyball skills. They are adapting very well to the 6-2 and hoping to be competitive this season."
The seventh-grade roster includes Hallie Bond, Emily Bourassa, Laney Coons, Abby Cornett, Rebecca Cox, Kaylee Duncan, Megan Ferris, Hannah Godsey, Tylin Heathman, Maleigha Hinton, Chelsea Leer, Macie Lynch, Ally Raney, Brinna Ream, Jaci Servos, Kadence Trosper, and Blair Wilson.
"Every player is a returning player from last year," said Wilson. "They had a very solid season last fall and, with added height and experience as eighth graders, they should be even stronger at the net, both offensively and defensively.
"Last year's records for this group were 9-5 (A team) and 8-2 (B team), with a third-place finish in the Tri-County Tournament."
The eighth-grade roster includes Chloe Arduser, Kate Burch, Julia Cassidy, Teagan Charles, Lani Coonrod, Madison Cox, Lindley Ferry, Jadeann Highley, Stacy Pennington, Lindsay Phebus, Riley Murray, Madison Shipley, Lindy Smith, Heaven Tignor, and Adi Wilson.
Nevada opens the season at Webb City Sept. 10.
