Comets fall to Fort Scott Community College in three sets
The Cottey Comets volleyball team fell in three sets to the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds, Tuesday night in Fort Scott.
Cottey is 1-3 overall.
Cottey dropped the first set 25-10, followed by 25-11 and 25-17 in the second and third sets.
"We played well in the first part of game one and the last part of game three," Cottey head coach Marla Kannady-Foreman said. "We allowed this very strong team to get in our heads. Once that happened we were giving up several point runs."
Kannady-Foreman said she did take away some positives from the match.
"We seemed to pass to the target quite well considering what the scores looked like in games one and two," she said. "And we had 37 digs and 21 kills on the night."
Cottey had a hitting percentage of -8 in the first match, followed by percentages of 8 and 12 in the second and third sets respectively.
Kannady-Foreman indicated she wasn't pleased with Cottey's 18 hitting errors, eight serve-receive errors, and five setting errors.
"Since we are getting passes to the target, we need more consistent setting-hitting opportunities," she said. "We are not showing anyone how capable we are in the hitting area. I have five hitters, but we still need to make that connection with the setters.
"We had too many setting errors, and our middle blockers were getting faked out and not going to block where needed."
For Cottey, sophomore Morgan Taylor recorded 14 digs, seven kills, an ace, and hit at a 22 percent clip. Freshman Melanie Dillon finished with 13 assists, while sophomore Katherine Brockus collected nine digs and two assists.
Freshman Tabitha Jackson tallied five kills three blocks and a 21 percent hitting percentage, while fellow freshman Ann Lipscomb finished with four kills, two aces and a block.
Freshman libero Reita Andrew totaled six digs and an ace.
