The Bronaugh Lady Wildcats picked up a two-set victory over the Miami Eagles, Thursday evening in Bronaugh.
The 25-19, 25-21 win improves the Lady Wildcats to 2-2.
First set
Bronaugh jumped out to a quick 3-1 advantage. Later in the set, a soft tip by junior Katey Rider put Bronaugh on top 6-4.
Giving the Lady Wildcats an added boost, junior Kailey Harrell served up four consecutive aces, as baffled Miami players were unable to handle her serves, handing Bronaugh a 10-4 lead.
Up 15-10, Miami reeled off a quick 5-0 run to tie the set 15-15.
A kill courtesy of senior Becca Raper allowed Bronaugh to regain the lead at 16-15. Raper then came through with an ace as the Lady Wildcats led 17-15.
Later, with Harrell back serving, Bronaugh padded its lead, going up 22-16. The swift 5-0 run was capped by a Rider kill. Rider also recorded the final point of the set with a kill.
Second set
Miami went in front 4-1, followed by a 3-1 Bronaugh run to slice the Eagles lead to 5-4.
Midway through the set, Miami began to take control, as they went on a 7-1 spurt to grab a 16-8 lead. This was followed by a 4-0 Bronaugh run, as they crept back into the match, trailing 16-12.
Later, a Rider tap inched Bronaugh closer at 17-15. From there the Lady Wildcats caught fire, ripping off seven straight points as they began to pull away, leading 22-17.
Miami however, would not go away, as three consecutive points closed the gap to 22-20.
Bronaugh recovered and was able to put the match away with three kills.
First year Bronaugh head coach Daryl Dodson, said he was impressed with his team's resiliency in the second set.
"We started to serve a little more consistently," he said. "And they really started to move their feet. They were playing flat-footed early."
Dodson also said he was pleased with Harrell's tough-to-handle serves. Harrell recorded five aces.
"Tonight she did a very good job serving," he said. "She gave us a nice lead in the first game and brought us back in the second game."
For Bronaugh, Rider had a big night with 11 kills and five blocks.
In addition to her five aces, Harrell also netted 20 serve points, while Raper finished the night with five service-aces.
The Lady Wildcats junior varsity team fell in two sets to Miami's JV team.
