Cleaning a teapot and dreaming of fun

Saturday, September 19, 2015

Hi neighbors. Fall is here and we still (hopefully) have a few fun weekends before the snow flies and the temperatures drop.

I learned something new this week. When you have any question about anything, go to Google. Did you know several thousand readers have asked how to remove melted teapots from an electric burner and how to then clean the burner? Yes, I am certainly not the first and most likely not the last to ask that question. Why I needed to ask that question of the all-wise Google need not be revealed; but you can surely guess.

Google results via eHow, suggested these steps. First, turn the burner on to medium heat and allow it to heat up. This gently warms the burned on residue and the heat might help loosen the burned on mess enough you can scrape it from the burner using a wooden spoon. Remove as much residue as possible by scraping. Turn off the burner and allow the burner to cool.

Let the burner soak in the sink with hot water and detergent. Hopefully, the hot water will soften the remaining yuck from the teapot. Then scrub the burner using a mesh scouring pad or a scrub brush. You will have to use pressure to remove as much residue as possible. Don't forget to dry the burner thoroughly before use. Even if you don't get it all off, the burner is safe to use. Paint or enamel from the teapot may diminish with use.

The Internet always amazes me in the information it offers. Of course you have to know the site you go to for advice is legitimate and that it's advice is sound. I always check three or four sites to see if they all say more or less the same thing before I take the offered advice.

Most websites that have addresses that end with .org or .edu or .gov are reliable, but always check other sites as well for information.

Many businesses have websites today as well and just entering their name in any reliable search engine should bring up their website. Be cautious though because several businesses often share a similar name. Look for addresses, phone numbers or other details you recognize on a search engine result website list before clicking on several to discover they are in another state or country.

You can even check for people by name. If you haven't done a search for your own name you should do so. Don't forget to search Google images for pictures of yourself, or pictures you have taken and posted on the Internet. You might be surprised!

I found there is a well-known professor named Nancy Malcom and she has a son named Bill, who helps her write scientific books! Just so you know, that is not me and my son.

But let's remember it is fall and when the sun is shining we need to be outside! If you go to the park or outside for any reason, encourage the family to leave their laptops, tablets, computer pads and cell phones in the car. If you need to keep in touch, or fear an accident or medical emergency have the oldest in the group carry a cell phone.

I think it such a shame to see people in social situations ignoring people around them and staying constantly busy "texting" on their cell phones! Live in the real world gang.

Until the next time friends, remember to enjoy the outdoors as much as you can. The fall weather will not last forever. I have to stay inside today. At least long enough to remove a burned teapot from my stove burner.
