Lady Tigers top tennis duo takes third at district tourney

The Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team was in action Friday at the Class 1 District 12 individual tournament in Warrensburg ---- as Nevada's top tandem ---- senior Megan Payne and sophomore Emma Cheaney placed third.
Warrensburg's Anna Mori and Rachel Lindquist bested Knob Knoster's Jessie Yates and Alexis Corona in the championship match 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

After receiving a first-round bye, Payne and Cheaney steamrolled Warrensburg's No. 2 doubles team Metege and Dahlhoff, 6-0, 6-1.
Payne and Cheaney then moved on to the semifinal round, where they were defeated by Knob Noster's top duo in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 4-6.
In the third place game, Payne and Cheaney topped fellow teammates Erika Watanabe and Jaiden Cherry, who comprise Nevada's No. 2 doubles team ---- 8-2. Watanabe and Cherry placed fourth.
Prior to reaching the third-place game Watanabe and Cherry beat Clinton's No. 1 team Gladfelter and Lesmiester 6-2, 6-1. They then fell to eventual champions Lindquist and Mori 6-1, 6-1.
Singles play
Warrensburg's Meredith Houk defeated Ellie Kayser of Father Tolton Regional Catholic 6-2, 1-6, 6-0, to win the Class 1 District 12 singles championship.
For Nevada in No. 1 singles play, Ellie Smith fell to Warrensburg's Riley Purvis 6-4, 6-4.
At No. 2 singles for the Lady Tigers, Sydnie Baker handed Knob Noster's Kali Randall a 7-5, 6-2 first-round defeat. Baker was toppled by Clinton's Adriane Dehn in the second-round 6-1, 6-1.
District play concluded the Lady Tigers 2015 season.
