Nevada JV-freshman football team bulldozes Warrensburg

The Nevada Tigers combined junior varsity and freshman football team ran roughshod over Warrensburg with a dominant 32-14 victory Monday evening at Logan Field.

Nevada jumped out to an early lead courtesy of a Jarren Powrie 12-yard touchdown run, followed by a Cameron Diaz two-point run to hand Nevada an early 8-0 edge.

Warrensburg responded with a 55 yard scoring drive capped by a four-yard Dylan Scott touchdown reception. Wide receiver Jackson Teichman's reception on the two-point play evened the score 8-8 with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter.

Warresnburg was then able to recover an onside kick, taking over at the Nevada 45-yard line. A few plays later, Diaz intercepted a pass thrown by quarterback Jason Levine. Diaz's 24-yard return took Nevada to the Warrensbug 35-yard line.

Nevada however, was unable to capitalize on the Warrenburg miscue, turning the ball over on downs. Nevada was able to quickly regain possession, recovering a Warrenburg fumble.

On first down from the Warrensburg 27-yard line, Diaz took an inside handoff, breaking several tackles on his way to the end zone. A toss-sweep to Diaz on the two-point attempt was successful, as Nevada went on top 16-8 with 7:40 remaining before halftime.

A Dalton Shepard 15-yard run took Nevada to the 12-yard line. Two plays later, Diaz took a halfback draw up the middle and into the end zone for the seven-yard score. Quarterback Powrie tacked on two-points via a bootleg to put Nevada up 24-8 with 6:38 remaining in the third quarter.

With 7:20 to play in the fourth quarter, a short rushing touchdown sliced Nevada's lead to 24-14. Levine was then sacked, thwarting the two-point play.

Diaz capped his big performance with a 32-yard highlight-reel worthy touchdown run with 4:16 to play in the fourth quarter. Shepard ran in the two-point score for the final 18-point margin.
