Two Vernon County residents are in custody after what sheriff's officials are calling their largest drug bust this year for Vernon County.
According to records, Julie M. Drake, 47, of Nevada, and John E. Slichenmyer, 45, of Nevada, have been charged with first-degree trafficking in drugs, an A felony, along with numerous other felony charges.
According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, a search warrant was served at a residence on East Lady Road just north of Nevada early Wednesday morning by the investigations division of the Sheriff's Office that resulted in the seizure of methamphetamines, marijuana and approximately $4,700 in cash.
"We believe there was a large amount of drugs being distributed into our county through this location," Mosher said. The sheriff said the retail value of the drugs seized would have a street value of more than $10,000.
"We found numerous containers that had hidden compartments in them so a lot of time and effort had been put into this case."
The sheriff said the investigation is still ongoing but a large amount of drugs have been taken off the street.
Drake, and Slichenmyer are being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $10,000 cash only bond.
