Walker City tractor back in working order
Members of the Walker Board of Aldermen got welcome news at their meeting; learning repairs to the town's tractor had returned it to operational status.
For about two months, the board had discussed the tractor's inability to function. Board member Phil Thompson and William Jeffery, the water operator for the city, noted the problems with the tractor.
At this month's meeting, Thompson said he was happy to say the tractor has been fixed. The clutch was "gone" Thompson said, recalling his conversation with Golden Valley Tractor in Clinton. "They said it was completely adjusted the wrong way, which helped ruin it.
"They (Golden Valley Tractor) said it's in good order now. It's ready to come back down. The reason it's not back down is because the department head there is trying to get the clutch 100 percent covered. It is a wear-part.
"Because of the relationship we've had, and because of the problems we've had with [the tractor], he wants to get the relationship back going. I tried to call him today, but he is on vacation today and tomorrow."
Thompson said all of the problems had been fixed, but he said he wanted to bring this to the attention of the board because he wouldn't be present when the tractor was returned.
Walker Mayor Phil Martin said he preferred the tractor be brought back when Thompson was available, so the delivery is now planned for Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Thompson said if the clutch repair is 100 percent covered by warranty, the only cost the city will have is a $300 charge for Golden Valley Tractor to move the tractor from Walker to Clinton and back.
Other action at the meeting included the board authorizing to pay Jerry Staples for work he did on roads in Walker. Martin said he was more than pleased with Staples' work.
