NPD makes arrest in arson case

A 20-year-old Nevada man has been arrested following an investigation by Nevada Police into to a series of suspicious fires and other related crimes that were reported at several different locations in and around Nevada.

Nevada Police responded recently to several unoccupied structure fires and brush fires that appeared to have been deliberately set by an arsonist. Nevada Police Investigators developed information that led the police to identify a suspect.

Taken into custody on the evening of Dec. 22 was Steven Gerritt Peelen. Peelen was arrested by Nevada Police officers without incident in the 800 block of South Spring and transported to the County Jail.

He has been charged by the Vernon County Associate Circuit Court with, burglary second-degree, stealing, knowingly burning, and two counts of arson second-degree.

Bond was set at $25,750 cash only. Members of law enforcement continue to follow leads in hopes of solving more cases.
