Nevada's Miller, Swink advance in Class 2 Wrestling tournament
Four Nevada High School wrestlers were in action Thursday at the Missouri High School Activities Association Class 2 State Wrestling Tournament in Columbia. Two-time Class 2 state-runner up Dayton Miller was one of the four Tigers who competed. Miller needed just over a minute to pin his opponent Deon Partlow who attends Miller Career Academy, as the Nevada product advanced to the 126-pound quarterfinals. Next up for Miller is Cameron's Justin Gans.
Nevada's Scott Swink at 195-pounds also had an impressive first-round showing, needing just 95 seconds to achieve a pin of Dextor's Michael Hurst. Swink moves on to the quarterfinals, where he will square off against Jacob Boyd of Smithville.
Nevada's Colton Shrewsbury checking in at 138-pounds, fell in the first-round to Jake Bollinger of Smithville, via a second-round pin. Shrewsbury stayed in contention, as he was able to stave off elimination in the wrestleback's by pinning St. Charles West's Brandon Carbray. The fourth Nevada wrestler, Trey Pritchett of the 220-pound class, fell in both of his matches and was eliminated from the tournament. Pritchett first squared off against St. Genevieve's Gabe Harmon. Harmon advanced with a 7-2 decision. In his first wrestleback, Richmond's David Parker toppled Pritchett with an 8-1 decision.
