Children's Center fundraiser draws capacity crowd

The Third Annual Trivia and Mouse Race Night, a benefit for the Children's Center, produced a sellout this year, with more than 300 people in attendance, and helped raise an estimated $17,000, said organizers.
"We still have some late contributions coming in and a few expenses," said Jeani Longstreth. "Our expenses are extremely minimal as all of our raffle and auction items are donated from throughout the four-county area that we serve, as well as the food and catering efforts and the rental and supportive services of the Elks Lodge for the facility.
"We are very proud to exist in this very supportive community. This fundraiser will cover about half of our operational expenses to provide services to the children and families that come to our attention.
"We want to thank the Elks Lodge for donating the use of the Bingo Hall and the services of their volunteer workers, Jody, Mike, and Sally."
Longstreth said the center just received some additional good news.
"We want the community to know that we have received approval for tax credits through the Champion for Children program that include state and federal credits."
