More than 160 children took part in the Vernon County Adult Recovery Court's 15th annual Easter egg hunt at the YMCA Saturday.
Court Administrator David Heumader said that 3200 Easter eggs were divided among the three ages groups.
The Adult Recovery Court spent $1,800 this year on eggs, candy, and prizes. Most of the money comes from donations. In addition to the candy stuffed into the eggs, each child received a ticket for a drawing for larger prizes when they signed in. Their name was placed into a bucket for their age group so that they would receive an appropriate prize.
About $500 each year comes from the Bushwhacker committee. Instead of paying a contractor to clean up afterwards, participants from VCARC do the clean up in exchange for a donation from the Bushwhacker committee that goes towards the Easter egg hunt.
The Easter egg hunt was preceded by activities and games inside the gym at the YMCA. At about 10 a.m., the first group of children from 0 to 3 years old, lined up waiting for the hunt to start. The 4 to 6 year old, and 7 to 12 year old groups followed.
The first Easter egg hunt, according to Heumader, was the idea of VCARC participants as a way to give back to the community. Over the years, it has been held at the Vernon County Courthouse, Marmaduke Park, and now at the Osage Prairie YMCA.
