The job of a deadbeat and the benefits that come with it

Saturday, April 16, 2016

"Deadbeat" (Merriam Webster's Dictionary) A lazy person: a person who does not work; a person who does not pay money that is owed

After dealing with so many people who make a living selling illegal drugs and stealing other people's things, I have decided that some of these people do not resort to this because they cannot get a job, but because they think they can make more money than the old fashion way, hard work. In other words, they think this is a better job.

So let's take a look at the pros and cons of being a deadbeat. As an aspiring deadbeat you can be your own boss; this is a very appealing aspect of any job right? You can also pick your own hours which means you get to sleep in every day, and guess what, you do not have to pay rent either.

As a deadbeat you will have lots of other aspiring deadbeat friends. It is like being accepted into a whole new family of people who do not work, do not care about anything, and lay around all day eating food that you, the tax payer, have paid for. It does not get any better than that does it? It is a carefree job that you cannot get fired from, and no one can tell you what to do.

And before you get too worried about being able to obtain a job like this, it is a very easy application process. Quit your job, start doing drugs, apply for food stamps, steal something from your neighbor, stop paying rent and start living the life.

Sometimes I wonder though when people decidted to take this "job" if they really understand what kind of life they are getting. For a short time, they will feel like they are on top of the world and nothing can bring them down.

Not until their friends turn on them to save themselves, not until their children are taken away from them for the drug environment they have created around them, not until they are labeled a thief because they have stolen from so many people, and not until they are sitting in jail with no one to call for help and no shoulder to cry on will they realize this "job" was not worth it.

They will look back and realize they have missed their kids first day of school, birthday, and the first time they rode a bicycle. They will never forgive themselves for being so strung out on drugs that they did not care that their own mother had been taken to the hospital and later passed away, and they will forever regret the day they looked in the mirror and got confused because they no longer recognized the person they were seeing. These are all things that have happened to different people throughout my time in law enforcement. Each story is just as sad as the next and what makes it worse is that very few change their lifestyle after such a tragic event.

If they could just understand that no matter how fast they ran, no matter how far they traveled, your past will always come find you. There is nothing funny, cool, or rewarding about being a deadbeat. All you will find is pain and sadness. There is no better time to make a change than today, because tomorrow is a new day, and with the right choices can be a new life as well.
