Two arrested after stopping in front of home being raided by VCSO
Members from several departments of the Vernon County Sheriff's Office including Patrol, Investigations, and the Special Response Team raided a residential home Saturday evening during the execution of a search warrant on S AA Hwy in Dederick.
During the raid, suspected methamphetamines, and drug paraphernalia were seized. One arrest was made during the search but names have not been released pending the filing of formal charges.
Two other people were also taken into custody that were not related to the raid when a driver decided stopping on the side of the road in front of the house where the search warrant was being executed was a good idea.
Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher says a female driver got out of the van and so a deputy walked across the street to see if she needed something. At that point the deputy could smell a very strong odor of marijuana and noticed the driver appeared to be impaired.
"Regardless of what someone may think about marijuana, it's not okay to drive a vehicle with small children inside while you are impaired" said Mosher.
The sheriff said a bag of marijuana was found beside a small child in the front seat and another small child was in the back. The driver was placed under arrest for driving while under the influence and the father was called to come and take custody of the children, but a records check found the father was a wanted parole absconder and was also arrested at the scene.
"There were a handful of law enforcement officers standing in the yard when she stopped, so it probably wasn't the best place to pull over if you're breaking the law" said the Sheriff.
The parole absconder has been identified as 41-year-old Brian Cain of Branson. The name of the driver has not been released pending the issuance of a warrant.
