Liberal wins district softball tournament

DIAMOND ---- The Liberal Lady Bulldogs defeated Jasper and Diamond en route to the school's first Class 1 District 11 softball crown.

After receiving an opening-round bye, top-seeded Liberal (16-4 overall) throttled Jasper 17-5 Tuesday in the semifinals, advancing to face Diamond in Wednesday's championship game.

The Lady Bulldogs then defeated No. 2 seed Diamond 11-7, as Liberal starting pitcher Delanie Freeze picked up the victory.

With the district championship victory, Liberal moves on to play Stockton in the Class 1 sectional-round, Monday at 5 p.m.

Stockton (13-7) claimed the Class 1 District 12 tournament, defeating Skyline 3-0 in Wednesday's championship game in Stockton.
