Friday, May 20, 2016

The third-seeded Bronaugh Wildcats were defeated 10-1 by No. 2 seed Greenfield in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 6 baseball tournament Wednesday in Lockwood.

The Wildcats trailed 4-1 after four innings of play, as Lockwood then scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth en route to victory.

Bronaugh finishes the season 4-10 overall.

Bronaugh's run came on a Bradley Evans fielders choice in the second inning.

For the Wildcats at the plate, freshman Austin Gray went 3-for-3, senior Gabe McIntire 2-for-3, and junior Joe Mader 1-for-3.

"I am very proud of all the boys," first-year Bronaugh head coach Jarrod Alexander said. "They continued to play hard the entire game."

Alexander said his club showed tremendous improvement as the season progressed.

"We made a lot of plays tonight we wouldn't have made when we started the season," he said. "We took leaps and bounds forward, and set a solid foundation to build upon in the future."
