Hornets stung by Drexel in district-play
The fourth-seeded Hume Hornets were defeated by top-seeded Drexel 12-0 in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 13 baseball tournament Thursday in Walker.
Drexel southpaw Trevor Gunnels and relief pitcher Ty Woltkamp combined for a five-inning no-hitter, with 13 of the 15 outs recorded by strike out.
Gunnels in particular was lights out, racking up 10 strike outs in four innings of work.
Drexel plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the second, and one in third, before breaking the game open with a seven-spot in the fourth, to go on top 12-0. Woltkamp entered the game in the top of the fifth, striking out the side.
For Hume (3-8), senior Dakota Thornburg pitched four innings, while drawing a walk at the plate.
