Cottey set to add athletic programs

Friday, May 20, 2016

Cottey College is making preparations to expand its athletic department, as the school is aiming to add golf and tennis beginning in the 2017-18 school year.

Comets Athletic Director Stephanie Beason confirmed to the Daily Mail, that a search is underway for coaches, as the head coaching vacancies for the golf and tennis positions have been posted.

Beason said the plan is to have the coaches in place in the very near future. The coaching staffs will then spend the 2016-17 school year recruiting as they prep the programs to compete beginning in the 2017-18 school year.

Beason added that the coaching positions will be combined with secondary positions on campus.

Beason said Cottey's tennis court is set to receive upgrades, and will be the site of home matches. It has not yet been determined where the Comets golf team will practice and host home-matches.

Schedules for the newest additions to Cottey athletics will not be released until late 2017.

Beason added that (like softball) both golf and tennis can compete in the fall and spring. However, the NJCAA tournaments for both sports will take place in the spring.

Current Cottey athletics programs include: Basketball, volleyball, softball, track-and-field, and cross country.
