Gordon, Ernsbarger awarded prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship
The prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship, for the 2016-2017 academic year, was presented to Riley Gordon and Morgan Ernsbarger, seniors at Nevada High School. The scholarships were presented by Monica Henderson and Louise Lunkenheimer May 20 at Nevada High School's Senior Recognition Night awards ceremony.
Gordon is the daughter of Staci and (step-dad) Eric Andersen and Phil and (step-mom) Dalena Gordon ---- and was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter ND of Nevada, Mo. Gordon has been accepted and will attend Pittsburg State University where she plans to major in political science or business. Gordon is also a member of the PSU Crimson and Gold Dance Team.
Ernsbarger is the daughter of Brent and Deb Ernsbarger and was recommended for this scholarship by Chapter DW of Nevada, Mo. Ernsbarger has been accepted and will attend the University of Missouri where she plans to study occupational therapy.
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. A student must be recommended by a P.E.O. chapter.
The P.E.O. Sisterhood, founded Jan. 21, 1869, at Iowa Wesleyan College located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa ---- is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women.
There are nearly 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with almost 250,000 initiated members. The P.E.O. Sisterhood has provided over $280 million in financial assistance to over 98,000 recipients.
In addition, the P.E.O. Sisterhood owns Cottey College, a fully accredited, private liberal arts and sciences college for women, with two-year and selected four-year programs, located in Nevada, Mo.
