Nevada Police and Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad investigate homicide

A suspect in the Tuesday night murder of a Nevada man is currently being held on a Department of Corrections parole violation in the Vernon County Jail. Nevada Police officers responded to the 800 block of East Ashland about 10:30 Tuesday night on a report of shots fired. Officers found 28-year-old Brendon Moreland lying in the apartment parking lot with several gunshot wounds. Moreland was taken to the Nevada Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.The Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad was activated with 25 investigators responding. The results of the murder investigation by the Southwest Missouri Major Case Squad and the Nevada Police have been presented to the Vernon County Prosecutor for the filing of formal charges in this matter. The results of the investigation led to the suspect's arrest Thursday. Residents are encouraged to contact the police if they have any information that would be helpful in this case.
