Alva Howard Carsten
Alva Howard Carsten, 90, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Freeman West Hospital, in Joplin, following a brief illness. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 2, 1925, to L. Frank Carsten and Bessie (Jones) Carsten. He married Rosemary June Coffey on June 20, 1959, and she survives of the home.
Alva grew up in Branson, Mo., and attended school there. He worked for a time for the City of Branson and drove a school bus in Branson. He worked for 21 years at Owens-Corning Fiberglass and was a member of the Teamster's Union in Kansas City, Kan. Alva came to Nevada in 1977 and farmed until his retirement in 1990. He was involved in the farmer's market for many years and was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Rosemary, include a son, David Carsten and his wife, Linda, Nevada; daughter, Phyllis Lynn Cullison, Overland Park, Kan.; grandchildren, Christopher Carsten, Springfield, Mo., Jeremy Cullison, Kansas City, and Ashely Vance, Lawrence, Kan.; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 6, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
