Richard J. Nangle
Richard "Dick" James Nangle, 81, of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, after a battle with cancer.
Richard was born Oct. 14, 1934 in Burlington, Kan., son of the late Harold Atley Nangle and Olive Grace Clark Nangle. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1952, and then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., and Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan. He worked as a field engineer for Burroughs Corp. for 27 years before joining NEO Federal Credit Union in Miami, Okla., in 1986 as a data processor, until his retirement in 2000. Richard married Kathleen "Kathy" Gardner on March 3, 1971 in Joplin, Mo. He was a member of Byers Avenue United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, John Nangle.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; sons, James Todd "J.T." Nangle of Clark, Colo., Mike Nangle and wife, Marta, of Branson, Mo., and Scott Nangle and wife, Sarah, of Joplin; daughter, Jennifer Nangle of Stillwater, Okla.; grandchildren, Haley Nangle and Sophia Nangle, both of Branson, and Lucas Nangle of Joplin; sister, Janice Damron and husband, Paul, of Topeka, Kan.; several nieces and nephews; and his four legged friends, Gracie, Abbey, Sunny and Chloe, who were of great comfort to him. The family wants to thank Dr. Leslie Hamlett and staff at Freeman Health Care; Debra Jenkins of Visiting Angels; Dr. Daniel Murillo and staff, Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.; and National Health Care for their care of Richard.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 17, at 2 p.m., in Parker Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Visitation will follow memorial service.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, National Kidney Foundation or Faithful Friends Animal Shelter, Neosho, Mo., in care of Parker Mortuary.
