Crum, McPhail garner MINK League accolades

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

Nevada Griffons players Andrew Crum and Jake McPhail earned MINK League Player of the Week honors for the week of June 20-26.

Crum, a southpaw out of Shippensburg (Pa.) University, shared the honors with Joplin Outlaws starting pitcher Eric Smith. Crum's big performance came June 24 in a 4-1 victory over the Ozark Generals. Crum tossed a three-hit (seven-inning)complete game gem, striking out four while allowing an earned run.

"Andrew has done an outstanding job this season," Griffons head coach Ryan Mansfield said. "He's not a high velocity guy, but he is able to locate pitches down in the zone with good command of his fastball and cruveball."

McPhail, a catcher, has caught fire as of late at the plate. For the week, McPhail was 5-for-9 with three RBIs, a double, and two runs scored.

"Jake has been working hard to improve at the plate," Mansfield said.
