Wells certified as senate candidate
On Tuesday, the Missouri Secretary of State's office announced that Tim Wells and 10 other candidates have qualified for the November general election.
Wells, a licensed professional counselor in Nevada, was certified as an independent candidate for the office of state senator in the 31st District. He will face Republican candidate Ed Emery of Lamar and Libertarian candidate Lora Young of Harrisonville.
In order to qualify, independent candidates must submit valid signatures of registered Missouri voters in the district equal to at least 2 percent of the total number of votes cast in the last election in that district, or 10,000 signatures, whichever is less.
"In my case, to get on the ballot, we needed a total of 1,567 accepted signatures in the district but we turned in 2,259 and relatively few were thrown out," said Wells.
Tuesday also saw Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander qualify Lester Benton Turilli, Jr. as an independent candidate for governor. Ten candidates were certified for the November ballot in various Missouri state House races.
The Secretary of State's office also announced the Green Party had qualified for the ballot.
The Green Party will have candidates for president, vice president, U.S. Senate, two U.S. House races, four statewide offices, one state Senate and five state House seats.
The general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
