Lady Tiger volleyball teams combine for 15-0 start to '16 season
GARNETT, Kan., ---- The Nevada High School varsity, junior varsity, and freshman volleyball teams have rolled out to 5-0 starts respectively. The latest victories came Tuesday evening in Garnett, Kan., where the Lady Tigers competed in a volleyball triangular.
The NHS varsity team bested host Anderson County High School in three sets (25-18), 25-16, and 25-14. In their second match, NHS trumped Fort Scott (Kan.) High School in two sets 25-17 and 25-23.
For the Lady Tigers against Anderson County, Ellie Smith finished with 23 assists, nine digs, and eight kills; Megan Hold 11 kills and 10 digs; and Adrian Bond four aces and four blocks. Against Fort Scott, McKinley Ellis tallied 10 digs and 10 assists; Hold and Smith seven kills apiece, while Elena Rodriguez chipped in with two aces.
The Nevada junior varsity team cruised to a two-set victory over Anderson County 25-23 and 25-13, and then dealt Fort Scott a three-set defeat (25-17), 25-17, and 25-18. The NHS freshman team throttled Anderson County 25-15 and 25-11, before beating Fort Scott 25-14 and 25-20.
