After dominating its inaugural meet Tuesday, the Nevada High School cross country team was back in action as they competed at the 12-team Fort Scott Invitational, Tuesday in Fort Scott, Kan.

The NHS girls team achieved a second-place finish, as freshman Calli Beshore left the field in her rearview mirror, blazing through the 5-kilometer course as she turned in the top time of 21:04.17. Nevada's Patience Lockhart placed third, Virginia Haverstic ninth, and Amara Pippin 10th ---- with each earning individual medals.

The NHS varsity boys netted a fourth-place finish, with Luke Sudkamp placing 12th for the top NHS finish. The boys JV finished first overall with Jayden Ast collecting fourth-place, Caleb Theis, seventh; Cayden Sanderson ninth; Clay Landoll, 11th and Ben Sudkamp 14th ---- all winning medals.

"Overall, it was a very impressive performance from our teams coming off of very short rest," NHS coach Ryan Watts said. "Typically, we wouldn't have two meets in a week, but this was a unique situation where we are trying to establish a home-meet on an available date that happened to have another quality meet we wanted to attend during that same week.
