NEVC junior high hoops teams open season

The Northeast Vernon County Knights and Lady Knights recently hit the hardwood, with both squads winners of two of its first three games.

The Knights opened their season Sept. 22 at home as they fell to Miami 23-18. NEVC was paced by Justin Culbertson, who accounted for all 18 points. In their second game Sept. 23, NEVC picked up a 38-21 road victory at Sheldon, as Culbertson poured in a game-high 36 points. Sheldon was led by Isaac Hall, who scored a team-high 14 points. NEVC returned to the court Tuesday, besting Ballard on the road 37-22, as Culbertson torched Ballard with 29 points.

Playing on the same dates as the boys team, the NEVC girls hammered Miami 28-11, with Lydia Longstreth dropping in a game-high 14 points. NEVC followed up with a 34-11 victory over Sheldon, as Longstreth again led all scorers with 20 points. NEVC was then defeated by Ballard 24-13, as Jaden George led the Lady Knights in scoring with a half-dozen points.
