NHS swim team earns second place at Joplin Invitational

It was a fantastic day in the pool Sept. 30 for the Nevada Tigers swim team, achieving a second place finish, defeating Thomas Jefferson, Lamar, and Parkview. NHS trailed only Joplin, who emerged as Invite champions. The Tigers finished just 15 points back of first-place Joplin.

NHS results (Note: Times are higher due to events measured in meters and not yards)

* The 200 Medley Relay team of Thomas Prewitt, Jake Asberry, Grant Miller, and Cody Hansen placed second, recording a time of 2:09.60.

* In the 200 Free, Michael Henderson's time of 2:29.30 was good for third place; while Jack Niestrath placed fifth with a time of 3:26.33.

* In the 200 IM, Miller placed third with a time of 3:00.05; Kalen Morris finished in fourth with a time of 3:26.33.

* In the 50 Free, Asberry took home gold, clocking a 25.44; Prewitt placed second with a time of 26.62; and Hansen finished in third at 28.48.

* In addition, Asberry placed first in the 100 Butterfly at 1:01.99.

* In the 100 Free, Prewitt's time of 1:02.13 was good for second place; Hansen placed third with a time of 1:05.82; and Morris slotted into fourth with a time of 1:09.23.

* In the 400 Free, Braden Russell's time of 5:58.77 was good for third place.

* In the 200 Free Relay, the team of Asberry, Prewitt, Hansen, and Miller netted second place with a time of 1:52.00

* In the 100 Backstroke Russell placed third with a time of 1:24.01, while Niestrath took fifth at 1:45.29.

* In the 100 Breaststroke, Tyler Armstrong placed third with a time of 1:32.04 while Miller placed fourth with a time of 1:33.16.

* In the 400 Free Relay, the team of Niestrath, Russell, Armstrong, and Morris placed second with a time of 5:16.59.
