Tigers earn gold medals at West Central Conference meet

The Nevada Tiger swim team had a solid showing at Thursday's West Central Conference meet hosted by Sedalia Smith-Cotton High School, as NHS placed third as a team, while also collecting gold in the 200 Free Relay event.

Host-school Smith-Cotton won the meet with a team score of 483, followed by Warrensburg at 382; NHS, 342; and St. Pius X with 317.

The 200 Medley relay team of Thomas Prewitt, Tyler Armstrong, Jake Asberry, and Cody Hansen received silver medals with a season best time of 1:53.01.

In the 200 Free, Armstrong placed third with a season best time of 2:12.30. Michael Henderson placed 10th with a time of 2:44.69 and Jack Niestrath placed 11th, clocking a season best time of 2:53.70.

In the 200 Individual Medley, Miller's time of 2:31.68 was good for fourth place.

In the 50 Free, Asberry took home silver with a time of 22.82, trailing the first place team by just 9/100th's of a second. Hansen placed fourth with his season best time of 25.06. Miller placed sixth at 27.00.

Asberry took gold in the 100 Butterfly by a margin of five seconds with a time of 56.65.

In the 100 Free, Prewitt earned a silver medal with a season best time of 52.08, just 2/100th's of a second out of first place. Also setting best times were senior Hansen, who placed fourth with a 58.71 and Morris who took fifth with a 59.62.

Freshman Braden Russell netted third in the 500 Free, clocking 6:36.62, bettering his previous best time by almost 10 seconds.

The 200 Free relay team of Miller, Asberry, Hansen, and Prewitt captured gold with a time of 1:37.31.

In the 100 Backstroke, senior Prewitt's season best time of 1:05.41 was good for third place. Russell placed fourth with a personal best time of 1:10.00, while Morris took fifth with a time of 1:14.06.

In the 100 Breaststroke, Armstrong placed third with a personal best time of 1:18.24.

The 400 Relay team of Henderson, Russell, Tyler Armstrong, and Morris took home bronze with a season best time of 4:23.
