Nevada Tiger varsity grapplers competed at Saturday's Carl Junction Classic, as a number of Nevada High student-athletes placed high individually, culminating in a sixth-place finish at the 17-team event.

In the 220-pound weight class, Nevada senior Jacob Johnson captured first-place, while Tanner Gotschall (138 pounds) and Colton Shrewsbury (152 pounds) placed third. Finishing in fourth-place individually for Nevada, were Coletan Shepard at 160 pounds, and Trevor Olson in the 195 pound division.

Match notes: In dramatic fashion, Gotschall prevailed in his third-place match as time expired. Meanwhile, Johnson was dominant, winning all five of his matches via pin.

"Every wrestler made a contribution to our team point total," Nevada wrestling head coach David Hawks said.

The Nevada Tiger junior varsity wrestling team was also in action Saturday, competing at the Harrisonville Tournament
