Nevada High head football coach Erik Yoakam submits resignation
Nevada High School is searching for a new head football coach.
After four seasons leading the Tiger football program, Erik Yoakam has submitted his letter of resignation, according to a Nevada R-5 press release from its regular monthly board meeting Wednesday night.
"There is a pool of candidates that have expressed interest in the position," NHS Athletic Director John McNeley said during a Thursday interview with KNEM-KNMO Radio.
"And at this point in time, we are trying to move forward with that process."
McNeley confirmed with KNEM-KNMO that the school does in fact have coaching interviews scheduled and that some of those interviews will take place over the course of the next few days.
McNeley added during the radio interview that the school is looking to move at a "pretty quick pace" as far as filling the head coaching vacancy.
"The quicker a decision like this is made, the better off you are in being able to make the decisions that go with that," McNeley told KNEM-KNMO. "So we definitely want to do this in a timely fashion, but at the same time you do want to make sure that you don't move too quick."
Yoakam, who compiled a career 13-28 overall record with the Tigers, had his best season in year one when he finished 5-5 overall. Yoakam then had a sub .500 mark in each of the following three seasons leading up to the his resignation.
The highlight of Yoakam's four-year stint, was the Tigers 21-20 district playoff victory over Grandview in October.
