Tigers place 18th at Battle of Lexington

The Nevada Tiger varsity wrestling team slotted into an 18th-place finish at Saturday's Battle of Lexington meet held at Wentworth Military Academy and College in Lexington, Mo.

Winning the tournament was Buffalo High School with 432 team points, while the Tigers concluded with 104 points.

The highlight of the meet for Nevada was senior Jacob Johnson's first-place finish in the 220 pound weight class, earning the Tigers 54 team points. In the championship match, Johnson pinned D.J. Gerhart of Marceline in 1:11.

Johnson is off to a dynamite start to the season, upping his record to 20-1.

Nevada's next highest finish came in the 160 pound weight class, where Coletan Shepard placed fifth, netting the Tigers 30 team points. In the fifth place match, Shepard earned the victory with a 7-5 decision over Gallatin's Caleb Michael. The win improves Shepard to 12-6 overall.

Next up

The Tigers are off until Thursday, Jan. 5, when they host the West Central Conference (Pod No. 1) meet. The WCC meet is slated for a 5 p.m. start.

Nevada then follows up with a Dec. 7 meet hosted by Monett High School, set for a 9 a.m. start.
