Sheldon drops road contest to Archie
The Sheldon Panthers were defeated 70-53 in a non-conference road contest Thursday night against the Archie Whirlwinds.
Archie went on top 25-13 after one quarter of play, and led 46-34 at halftime. Archie then outscored Sheldon 24-19 in the second half for the final 17-point margin.
The loss brings Sheldon's record to 6-3 overall (4-1 GVVC-play).
"We played with heart and played solid on both ends of the floor," Panthers head coach Dusty Murray said.
"We had some shots that just didn't go in, and on defense we played as sound to the defense I called as you can play. (Archie) was hot from the outside, and all our boys could do was try to get a hand in the shooters face."
For Sheldon, Kaleb Martin finished with a team-high 17 points; Zavery Lamb, 12; Brett O'Connor, 8; Clayton Loyd, 8; Jason leavell, 3; and Matt Bogart, 3.
"Kaleb was active all around the floor tonight," Murray said. "Zavery attacked consistently, and on any given night his 12 points could have easily been double that.
"Brett scored, rebounded and did a good job passing as a big man. Clayton spread out the floor and did a good job getting everyone in position. Proud of these boys and their effort tonight."
Murray continued, "We made good improvement from the foul line and we will continue to build on these successes and learn from our efforts tonight going into our next game against our conference opponent Ballard."
