Tigers awarded top seed at Frontenac tourney
The Nevada Tigers have landed the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Kansas Air National Guard Invitational in Frontenac, Kan. The Lady Tigers, who will also be competing in the Frontenac (girls) Invitational, are seeded eighth.
The Tigers were awarded the No. 1 seed based off its overall record. Having won three consecutive games, Nevada enters the tournament 8-3 overall, and will be matched up against the eighth-seeded Monett Cubs (2-10). Tip off for the opening-round matchup with Monett is slated for Thursday at 4 p.m. The remainder of the boys bracket stacks up like this: No. 2 seed Pacific (7-4) vs. No. 7 seed Fort Scott (2-6); No. 3 seed Piedmont, Okla. (5-5) vs. sixth-seeded Wichita Independent (2-5); and No. 4 seed Webb City (4-5) vs. No. 5 seed Frontenac (3-4).
Girls bracket
The eighth-seeded Lady Tigers (3-9 overall) open play Thursday at 5:30 p.m., as they match-up against No. 1 seed Classen School of Advanced Studies, Okla., (13-0). The remainder of the bracket has second-seeded Piedmont, Okla. (9-1) squaring off against seventh-seeded Blue Springs (4-9); No. 3 seed Neosho vs. sixth-seeded Fort Scott (3-5); and fourth-seeded Blue Valley S.W. (4-5) vs No. 5 seed Frontenac (3-4).
The tournament is scheduled to conclude Saturday evening.
