Nevada JV team hammers Butler at El Do tournament
In Monday night high school hoops action, the top-seeded Nevada Tigers blew past eighth-seeded Butler 50-31 in the opening round of the El Dorado Springs Junior Varsity basketball tournament.
The Tigers (7-5) led 29-11 at halftime, and then outscored El Do 21-20 in the second half.
Sophomore forward Matt Thompson finished with a game-high 20 points, which included nine third quarter points. Freshman Austin Bash dropped in 10 second quarter points, while tallying 18 for the contest.
"Tonight, we got off to a slow start as we were settling for the first available jump shot," Nevada junior varsity head coach Kyle Talley said.
"Once we started attacking the zone with dribble-drives into the middle, we were able to break (Butler's zone)."
The Tigers second round semifinal contest is slated for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday against fourth-seeded Warrensburg.
"We must do a better job of rebounding on Wednesday, Talley noted.
