NMS teams conclude busy week
The Nevada Middle School seventh and eighth-grade boys' basketball teams wrapped up an action-packed week in Nevada, having played three games each.
Eighth-grade scores
The Tiger eighth-grade A team opened the week Monday night with a 40-15 home victory over Fort Scott (See Tuesday's edition for story).
The Tigers then switched gyms Tuesday night, moving from Nevada Middle School to Nevada High's Wynn Gym, where they toppled El Dorado Springs 53-12.
Against El Do, Nevada center Ben Hines poured in a game-high 19 points, while Logan Applegate added nine. Nevada's B-team dispatched El Do 45-24 as Trey Moore and Ty Thomas combined for 28 points.
The Tigers returned to the cozy confines of Nevada Middle School for a Thursday night Tri-County Conference contest with Joplin East (2-5).
Nevada rolled to a 50-24 victory over Joplin East, improving to 6-0. For the Tigers, Applegate finished with a game-high 16 points, followed by Hines with 14; Lane McNeley, 12; and Kaden Denney, Logan McNeley, Ty Thomas and Wesley Balk, two points apiece.
Nevada's B-team (3-3) bested Joplin East 40-25, as Moore led the way with 11 points, followed by Thomas with nine; Riley Trotter, six; Lane Wilson, four; Balk, four; Hauns Bjorlokken, four; and Elijah Nadurata, two.
Seventh-grade scores
After falling 31-27 on Monday to Fort Scott the Tigers resumed action Tuesday, as it switched locations from Franklin P. Norman Community Center to Nevada Middle School.
At NMS, the Tigers picked up its first victory of the season with a 27-13 defeat of El Dorado Springs, as Nevada's Eli Cheaney tallied a game-high nine points.
Nevada's B-team cruised to a 34-13 win over El Do as Jackson Dryer finished with 11 points.
For its third-home contest of the week the seventh-grade Tigers returned to its regular home-court, the Franklin P. Norman Community Center.
Hosting Joplin East, the Tigers (1-5) dropped a 28-26 heartbreaker. Trailing 26-18 late, the Tigers stormed back to tie the contest at 26 apiece with 45 seconds remaining in regulation.
After Joplin regained a 28-26 lead, Nevada had one final opportunity to tie or take the lead. Logan Marquardt's midrange jumper swished through the net, but was ruled to have been released after the buzzer.
