Next stop, bridge over Katy Allen Lake

Wednesday, February 1, 2017
Hoisted from its abutments, this is the 48 feet long center section of the old bridge across Little Dry Wood Creek on Tally Bend Road between 1300 and 1400 roads. The bridge was constructed in 1910 and features diagonal rods tensioned with turnbuckles and rivets which were hand pounded into place. The inside width is 13 feet, 6 inches while the total length was originally 88 feet. The Vernon County road and bridge crew is dismantling it and will, later this year, install it as a pedestrian bridge over the east end of Katy Allen Lake. Johannes Brann/Daily Mail
