Nevada hosts Center for JV, C-team matchups
In Thursday night West Central Conference hoops action Nevada High School's junior varsity and C-teams hosted Center High School (Kansas City).
Nevada's junior varsity boys team (11-7) was defeated 56-45. For the Tigers, sophomore forward Matt Thompson finished with a team-high 17 points, with 15 coming in the second half. Nevada point guard Carter Swearingen added 11.
In the junior varsity girls' game, Nevada (11-6) trounced Center 48-26. The Lady Tigers led 11-6 at the conclusion of the first quarter, and 19-14 at halftime. Holding a 10-point advantage through three quarters of play, Nevada used a 16-4 fourth quarter blitz for the final 22-point margin.
"Any time this group steps on the floor, they work hard and give it everything they've got," Lady Tigers' JV head coach Lori Thorp said.
For the Lady Tigers freshman guard Hailee Lundine erupted for 21 points, including five 3-pointers, while Lindley Ferry added nine; Lindsey Phebus, six and Sammy Gundy, six.
In the boys' C-team contest, Nevada fell 64-50. For the Tigers (8-7) freshman Austin Bash tallied a team-high 15 points while Matt Thorp added 10.
The Lady Tigers defeated Center 20-13 in a two quarter C-team matchup. Ferry led the way with nine points while Cameron Holcomb added five.
