Senior Night Special: Mader lights up Miami

Bronaugh High School's boys' and girls' varsity basketball teams drubbed visiting Miami on Senior Night Thursday in Bronaugh.
The Wildcats beat Miami 65-43 while the Lady Wildcats won its contest in convincing fashion, 51-9.
In the boys' game, Bronaugh (8-15) jumped out to a 23-8 first quarter lead, before settling for a 35-22 halftime advantage.

The Wildcats, playing without star senior forward Tyler Strunk, outscored Miami 30-21 in the second half for the final 22-point margin.
The Wildcats were led by senior guard Joe Mader, who poured in a career-high 37 points. Mader was lethal from long-range, knocking down nine 3-pointers (12-27 FG, 9-22 3-PT, 4-7 FT).
Wildcat freshman shooting guard Austin Gray tallied 17 points, while Dallas McIntire added 11.
Girls' contest
The Lady 'Cats opened on fire, jetting out to a 38-8 first quarter lead. Bronaugh then held the visitors to a single point from the second quarter until the conclusion of the contest, outscoring Miami 13-1 for the final 42-point margin.
The Lady 'Cats were led in scoring by senior forward Katey Rider, who finished up with 13 points and four rebounds. Senior Mandy Murphy and sophomore Riley Knapp added 10 points apiece, while senior point guard Taylor Stratford pitched in eight points.
Bronaugh (19-5) held Miami to an ice cold 17 percent shooting from the field (3-of-17) and 0-for-5 from long-range.
Knapp also came up with four steals, as the Lady 'Cats led in that department 7-1, while outrebounding Miami 20-13.

The Bronaugh boys' and girls' teams have concluded their regular seasons and are set to embark on district tournament-play.
The top-seeded Lady Wildcats open the Class 1 District 6 tournament Monday against eighth-seeded Sheldon at Drexel High School.

The fourth-seeded Bronaugh boys open play against fifth-seeded Ballard on Tuesday, with tip off set for 5:45 p.m.
