New speed signs

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

City of Nevada employees Michael Sharrock, left, and Michael Kavalesky, right, install a new electronic speed sign on Olive Street across from Nevada Middle School. The sign detects and displays the speed of approaching cars in the school zone. A second sign is on Ashland Street near Nevada High School and a third, new, sign is on Ashland Street near Bryan Elementary. Randy Marti, Nevada's administrative services director, said the sign on Olive Street had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The signs were replaced with funding received from a Missouri Department of Transportation Grant which accounted for 80 percent of the approximate $14,000 cost. The other 20 percent was split between the city of Nevada and Nevada R-5 School District. The new signs replace older models donated to the city by 3M Nevada more than 15 years ago.
