Bushwhacker Days Royalty candidates sought
The Bushwhacker Days Royalty Pageant Committee and the Elizabeth Carey Chapter DAR announce plans for the 2017 Bushwhacker Days Royalty Contest. Entry forms for candidates are available online at the Bushwhacker Days website, www.bwdays.com, at the Nevada/Vernon Co. Chamber of Commerce, local schools and the University Extension Center.
The application is due by May 13. The committee has added a Meet and Greet Night for the candidates at 6:30 p.m. on May 16, at the Bushwhacker Museum to get acquainted with each other and receive information about the events and judging.
The Royalty Judging Tea Party will be on May 20, 10 a.m., also at the Bushwhacker Museum. The candidates are asked to dress in period costume but the judging will be entirely on the interview questions at the judging tea.
Candidates should be prepared to answer questions about the history of Nevada and Vernon County during the Missouri-Kansas Border War and Civil War from the years of 1859-1865 and the dress of that period. Emphasis will be on the burning of Nevada and the role of the Bushwhackers during that time.
This year’s Bushwhacker theme is: “New Horizons”. The candidate categories are Queen, 18 or older; Princess, 14-17; Junior Miss 10-13; Little Miss 8-10 and Miss Pioneer 5-7.
The reigning royalty from the 2015 Contest is Queen Megan Mason, Princess Adrian Arnold, Junior Miss Ally Raney, Little Miss Elise Moreland and Miss Pioneer Alekxis Moreland. The committee hopes for the Bushwhacker Royalty Contest to continue to grow by more businesses, organizations and families entering candidates to participate in this year’s contest.
