The Nevada Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 223 E. Ashland St. at about 5:30 Monday morning.
Fire Chief William Thornton wrote in a press release, “Upon our arrival, fire was visible from the backside of the single story wood frame structure. NFD assured all occupants were out and a defensive attack was conducted on the structure.”
Thornton said damage to the building owned by Star Wilson was extensive and estimated at $25,000 — the home a total loss. The vinyl siding on the house east of the fire was melted by the heat.
Nine firefighters spent three hours on scene and were still putting out hot spots at 8 a.m. Thornton said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
