Nevada High’s Hinton no-hits Clinton
Nevada High School’s Braeden Hinton had a memorable Saturday morning and early afternoon, as the junior right-handed pitcher tossed a seven inning no-hitter, en route to a 10-1 victory over Clinton.
“Braeden wasn’t trying to be perfect, he was just having fun and playing baseball,” said Tigers’ head coach Danny Penn.
The West Central conference road victory improves Nevada to 8-6 overall 3-4 in WCC-play.
Hinton’s only hiccup came in the bottom of the first, as he walked a pair of batters. Clinton leadoff hitter Trey Miller later came around to score on an error, as Hinton was hit with an unearned run.
Hinton then proceeded to retire 19 consecutive batters. Nevada second baseman Jarrett Owen made a diving play in the seventh to preserve the no-hitter. The final out of the contest came courtesy of a three-pitch strikeout, as Hinton secured the no-hitter.
Nevada’s offense also delivered, as the majority of its run-production came in the first and seventh innings, when the Tigers plated four and five runs respectively.
“We scored four in the first which is such a great benefit to a pitcher,” Penn noted.
“It removes the burden of Braeden having to be perfect. It’s even better when his defense is making plays behind him. Dalton (Gayman) made a couple nice plays in center. Logan (Armstrong) had three assists from third base, and Jarrett made the diving stop in the seventh to preserve the no-no. Braeden led the charge today, but it was a total team effort.”
Penn added that he was impressed with Hinton’s battery, senior Tyler Ketterman.
“Tyler called a great game,” Penn said. “He and Braeden worked well together, changing speeds and locations to keep Clinton off-balance.”
Hinton, who needed just 95 pitches to record the no-hitter, stuck out nine and walked two.
At the plate for Nevada, Ketterman went 3-for-4, with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and walk; Armstrong, 2-for-4, with a run, RBI and a walk; Hinton- 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI; Myles McNeley, 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI; Owen, 1-for-4 two runs and an RBI; Peyton Denney, 1-for-4 with two RBIs; Gayman, 1-for-4 with an RBI; and Will Johnson, 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
