Sheldon tops Miami
The Sheldon Panthers cruised to a 9-3 Golden Valley Vernon County Conference road victory over the Miami Eagles, Friday.
The win improves Sheldon to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in GVVC-play.
Sheldon trailed 2-1 at the conclusion of three innings, before plating three runs in the sixth followed by five in the top of the seventh to go on top 9-2. Miami was able to push a run across in the home-half of the seventh for the final six-run margin.
“We got off to a slow start but eventually put together two good innings,” said Sheldon head coach Matt Beatty, referring to the sixth and seventh inning offensive explosion.
“We were able to wear their pitcher down throughout the course of the game,” said Beatty. “This was a good win heading into districts for us.”
For Sheldon, Zavery Lamb (1-1) worked four innings, striking out five. At the dish, Dominic Goforth finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. The top-seeded Panthers matchup with the winner of Bronaugh vs. Ballard, who play in Monday’s Class 1 District 8 tournament opening round-game.
