Cottey track athletes gearing up for upcoming national meet

Cottey Comet track-and-field athletes concluded their regular-season with several excellent performances May 12 at the Missouri Southern State University “Last Chance Meet” in Joplin. Lightning quick Comets’ Junior Bukola Pereira broke the school record in the 800-meter run, placing third with a time of (approximately) 2:20, while also hitting the national qualifying mark in the event. In addition, Cottey’s Karin Hasegawa ran a season best in the 800, while Dawn Wood set a personal best in the shot put.

NJCAA Nationals

Pereira, along with teammate Lexi Gradwohl are now off to the NJCAA Nationals, Thursday through Saturday at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. Pereira said the key to a successful outing in Hutchinson is getting a good night’s rest, as finals have made for an exhausting week. Pereira and Gradwohl depart from campus today
