Hall of Famer Mooneyham reaches Nevada Speedway’s victory lane

Seventy-four year-old Darrell Mooneyham, who was inducted into the Ozarks Area Racers Association Hall of Fame in 2008, added to his sparkling racing resumé with a victory in the Late Model division Saturday night at Nevada Speedway.

Mooneyham was money, as the Verona native started third in the feature before flying the checkers. Mooneyham was engaged in a side-by-side battle with Webb City’s Mark Daye, who settled for runner-up.

Jerry Brown of Nevada, advanced two positions to finish third, while Nevada Speedway points’ leader Dylan Timmerman of El Dorado Springs finished fourth. Mound City’s John Willard rounded out the top five field.

Making the trip down from St. Joseph paid off for Steven Bunton, who parked his car in the winner’s circle after starting with pole position.

Last week’s feature-winner, Jon Starnes of Nevada placed runner-up, after a heated battle with Sheldon’s Mike Baxter, who collected third. Fourth and fifth-place went respectively to Ken Leverich of Joplin and Cory Newby.

–– Pure Stocks ––

Hometown driver Jaren Powrie secured first place in the Pure Stock feature event. Fellow Nevada native Morgan Campbell, applied pressure to Powrie, before finishing a close second.

Last week’s feature winner, Jason Agee of Fort Scott, started in the sixth position, before maneuvering up three spots for the third-place finish. The man on the move, however, was Carl Junction’s Thomas Dunham, who started way back in the 16th position, bypassing most of the field to collect a fourth-place finish. Meanwhile, John Shaver of Lamar topped off the top five after starting ninth.

–– Street Stocks ––

Larry Ferris secured his first victory of the season Saturday, as the Kansas City native started with outside pole position. Weekly competitor Karl Lehmann of Nevada, trailed Ferris, as he coasted into second place (after starting fourth).

Advancing four spots was Shawn Hendren, who netted a third place finish. Frontenac’s Mike Bitner placed fourth, while Dale Douty of Butler finished fifth.

–– Midwest Mods ––

Collecting his third win of the season, Rob Muilenburg of Sparta dusted the competition, leading wire-to-wire as he sped into victory lane. Cayden Campbell of Nevada moved up one spot, taking home a second-place finish, while Fort Scott’s Norman Mackley made a big move from his starting position of eighth, to nab third.

The top five was rounded out by Bill Schlobohm, fourth, and Jasper’s Kent Shouse, who placed fifth after starting 11th.

–– B-Mods ––

For a third consecutive week, Fort Scott’s Brian Bolin found himself in the Nevada Speedway winner’s circle, as Bolin again topped the B-Mod competition.

Bolin, who started on the pole, led every lap of the feature. Current division points’ leader Rusty Skaggs, also from Fort Scott, finished in the runner- up position.

The B-Mod division was dominated by Fort Scotians, as Jerry Morgan zoomed into third. Neosho’s Levi Phillips grabbed fourth, while Brayton Skaggs of Fort Scott placed fifth.

–– A-Mods ––

Making the haul all the way from Wichita, Tad Davis didn’t disappoint, claiming first in the A-Mod division after leading wire-to-wire.

Iola’s Chase Sigg finished second, while Nevada’s Scotty Bough lost out on a battle with Sigg, as he settled for third. Bough, however, was pleased with the top three finish after starting ninth.

John Romesburg of Seneca placed fourth, while the division’s current points’ leader, Lucas Dobbs, took fifth.

A full weekly program of races is slated for Saturday, with the first race beginning at 7 p.m.
