A half-dozen local youth golfers competed at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield on June 22, in a preliminary qualifying event for the 2018 Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals.

Nevada golfers who participated, were:

• Emree Cameron, 10, who qualified for the 2017 Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals –– placed second overall at Twin Oaks, as she advanced to the next stage. Her runner-up performance included a first place finish in the putting category. (Note: Top three in each age division advanced to the upcoming sub-regionals)

• Owen Swearingen, 12, advanced with a third-place finish, as putting was his strongest category.

• In his first year of competing, 7-year-old Ty Cameron qualified for the next stage with a third place finish, missing out on first by just two points. Cameron did, however, place first in the chipping category.

Other Nevada golfers who competed at Twin Oaks, but did not qualify for the next stage of the 2018 Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals, were: Clara Swearingen and Luci Dunkeson in the girls 10-11 year-old division, with Swearingen netting a second-place finish in putting; and Luke Dunkeson in the boys 7-9 year-old division.

A trio of local qualifiers, Emree Cameron, Owen Swearingen and Ty Cameron, advanced to the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals sub-regional qualifier, slated for Aug. 26 at the Buffalo Ridge Springs Golf Course located near Branson. For the sub-regionals, only the top two finishers out of each division move on to the regional finals –– to be held in September in Tulsa.
