In a Tuesday night prep volleyball matchup, the Hume Lady Hornets were defeated in a two-set non- conference road match by Appleton City. Hume (3-9 overall, 2-2 GVVC-play) fell in the first set 25-12 and dropped the second set 25-9.

“Tonight was another tough loss,” said first-year Lady Hornets head volleyball coach, Jackie Harter.

Harter added that she took away several positives from the match. “One thing that I can say we did well, is serve-receive,” she Harter. “Our serve-receive was almost flawless tonight.”

Harter said in particular, she was impressed with back row players Hannah Swickhamer and Deborah Yarick.

“They did an excellent job in the back row in both serve-receive and defense,” she said. “I also saw a lot of hustle from (senior) Karlee Metcalf and (freshman) Braelynn Morrison.”

For Hume, Yarick and Swickhamer tallied 10 kills apiece, while Metcalf chipped in five assists and a pair of kills — with Hannah Gorda adding two kills. As a team the Lady Hornets recorded 35 digs, seven kills and five assists.

“We have a lot to work on before our next game,” said Harter. “Hopefully, we can get the spark back we had at the beginning of the season.”

The Lady Hornets hosted Miami in a GVVC matchup, Thursday night in Hume.
